Boston the Rock and Roll Band

The other day a customer was kind of lingering at the counter at the coffeeshop, which is a bit of a personal pet peeve. I had nothing to say to this man, I'd used up all my small talk with him the day before. I introduced him to my coworker, Layla. And he said, "Wow! You both have really great rock and roll names." My initial reaction was, eh, not really. My song, Amanda, by Boston- is it really that great, and does anyone even know about it? I've always sort of felt ambivalent about my name, leaning towards dislike. But that guy, he convinced me otherwise and I've decided to start thinking about my name, and therefore, myself, being rock and roll.

You don't think Boston's Amanda is a great tune? I think it's one of their best. It was also their only #1 song so I'm sure lots of people know it. I can't think of any songs written about my name.

As I may have told you before, my sister's name is Amanda. She shares your distaste for the Boston song and has had more than a few run-ins with people putting it on jukeboxes for her and singing it faux-gloriously. I think you need to meet her so you can commiserate.

Oh and by the way, I met Brad Delp (singer/songwriter for Boston) on several occasions - no joke - and was quite bummed when he died a few years ago. Great guy. His kindness doesn't rationalize that song's existence, though.
